SurgPath4U

About this Site:

This site was created for health care practitioners to learn about pathology, and specifically surgical pathology. It initially started as an idea to reposit interesting or exemplary cases for internal teaching. We thought, "Why not make it available to others?" So we have. We didn't design this site as an encyclopedic atlas, but rather as a clean and simple way to view cases and gain or cement knowledge. We hope that you enjoy using the site and find the information helpful.

Terms of Use:

Understandable Text:
Please browse the site and enjoy it. We hope you come away with some new knowledge. That being said, there are some ground rules. Except where noted in submitted cases, the copyright to the images is owned by surgpath4u.com. What does this mean? Will we be mad if you find a nice image of a diagnosis and use it in a discussion or presentation to a small group for educational purposes? Nope, that's FAIR USE . Be sure and properly reference it to surgpath4u.com. Will we be mad if that presentation with an image from this site shows up on the web, or you use an image from the site at a regional or national meeting in a presentation? Yeah, probably. Don't do that for a number of reasons including that it's unethical and it's stealing. Will we be mad if an image shows up in your publication? Yep. Irate. So please don't do that. Also, most of the text here is really just descriptive of the images, but in the cases of the other sections (e.g. prognosis, treatment) these are mostly accepted and acknowledged medical information and freely available in the public domain. We try to reference anything that's not considered well known and accepted information, and in those cases reference the primary work if you'd like. Just don't get lazy and copy/paste text from the site into your work though, that's going too far.

If you really want to use an image from here for purposes other than small group non-published discussions/presentations, just ask. There's no guarantee, but if we give you permission, we can probably get you a better quality image than is on the site anyway. Who knows, it could be the basis for some sort of collaboration.

Oh yeah, one other thing. The user interface: we specifically designed this site with ease of navigation in mind. The site design mostly came from meetings and hallway conversations like: "Wouldn't it be great if you could click on a link and it would show you all the cases . . ." etc. etc. Coding the site was actually a lot of fun and we used it as an opportunity to learn about relational databases, php, javascript, html, and on and on. It would be pretty tough to cut and paste the code and make anything work, as there's a lot of server side scripting being done. But with that in mind, we got a lot of ideas and code examples from the web on how to do stuff. If this site's code helps you to do the same, great. What you shouldn't do is design your site with the identical or suspiciously similar user interface. Either submit cases here (we'd love to expand what we offer and you can retain copyright to your images), let us know how we could improve the site, or design your own site with a different and better interface. Bottom line, don't rip off the interface and host your own nearly identical website.
