IMAGE DESCRIPTIONS

Surface epithelium appears hyperhcromatic and slightly crowded. These features are not sufficient for low-grade dysplasia, but cannot be completely ignored. Image

Mucin depletion is also seen along the surface. Acute inflammation is not prominent but a few neutrophils were seen scattered in other fields.

BACKGROUND

The criteria Indefinite for dysplasia (IND) for Barrett esophaus are ill-defined. Basically, it is a diagnosis given when there are not definitive features to diagnose low-grade dysplasia but the changes are too much to call it negative for dysplasia. Findings in IND include architectural distortion of glands, mild to moderate nuclear dysplasia, mucin depletion and nuclear stratification.
