BACKGROUND

Most common sarcoma in the anterior mediastinum.

CLINICAL

Affects adults. THere may be syncronous involvement of other sites such as retroperitoneum. In a review of 24 cases, patients ranged from 3 years to 72 years of age, with a median age of 58 years. Presenting symptoms were most commonly dyspnea (5 cases), and cough (4 cases) (Hahn).

PROGNOSIS

Curable upon resection but approximately 1/3 recur.
