System: Head and Neck: Oropharynx: Benign: Lymphoepithelial Cyst of Tonsil
Atrophic appearing squamous epithelium lines this pseudocyst, dilated by abundant keratinous debris. Note the lack of a granular layer in the epithelium.
Its only importance in the tonsil is for the pathologist not to mistake it for a well differentiated squamous cell carcinoma.
No treatment is usually necessary unless the cyst becomes infected and symptomatic.
Entirely benign.
