Acute neutrophilic exudate

Mucosal ulcerations secondary to a brisk neutrophilic infiltrate extending both downward into the lamina propria but also erupting into the lumen.

CLINICAL

Typically involves children and adolescents although older adults may also be affected. Classically presents with elevated WBC count, fever, and RLQ abdominal pain, although these features are not always present.
