BACKGROUND

Vascular malformations of the brain include arteriovenous malformations, cavernous angiomas, capillary telangiectasia, and venous angiomas. Histologically, AVMs are characterized by thick-walled arteries and veins separated by gliotic brain tissue.

Individuals may be asymptomatic or present with acute hemorrhage.
