System: CNS: Brain: Neoplastic: Astrocytoma, Diffuse
Diffuse astrocytomas are similar to normal brain tissue, but more cellular and reactive.
Glial cells (astrocytes) are set in a fibrillary background.
Diffuse astrocytomas are WHO Grade II tumors. Recognized variants include fibrillary (most common), protoplasmic (disputed) and gemistocytic (resembling gemistocytes).
