The astrocytes are plump and atypical.

The nuclear pleomorphism is evident at higher power.

BACKGROUND

Anaplastic astrocytoma is considered a WHO grade III neoplasm. Compared to diffuse astrocytoma (grade II), there is increased cellularity, nuclear pleomorphism and mitotic activity.
